4 Things To Decide Before Getting Your iPhone Repaired
1. Should I Backup My Data
Although the loss of data is less than 1% during a repair, we always recommend backing up. In fact, every week would be better…
If you are unsure, here are tutorials on how to create a new backup, and how to delete an old backup if you are running out of space.

Delete old backup – https://youtu.be/gStUJC9ZTD4
2. Data privacy – provide password or not
We will ask for a password to help us test the device pre & post repair, however we do not need it if you have sensitive data.
One option is to backup, log out of iCloud & reset the device, if you are unsure on how to do this here is a tutorial https://youtu.be/GIynniqtg0U
Another option is to test the iPhone yourself when you come back to the store, the downside to this is if there is an issue it will take another hour to fix it.
N.B We do have very strict data policies, have a read here: https://smashedit.co.nz/data-security/
3. Is anything else wrong?
Assuming you can still turn on and use the device, we suggest doing a full check-up of the main functions. Letting us know the issues before we get started, this will help us speed up the repair. Check the;
- Screen
- Microphones (try a voice memo and a front & rear video, then playback to check the audio is clear)
- Speakers
- Charging port (insert your cable and make sure it connects securely and does not disconnect or connect intermittently)
- WiFi and BlueTooth (normal number of networks showing?)
4. Choose A Screen / Part Quality
Screens
Original – Our genuine iPhone screens come with a 6-Month warranty. We always recommend this option as we see far fewer issues.
Aftermarket – Our economy screens are backed with a 2 month warranty. We observe issues after around 4-6 months with a less responsive touch & dull colours. We usually only recommend this part if you intend on replacing the device in the near future.
For more pros and cons see here – https://smashedit.co.nz/iphone-repair/#screen-quality
Batteries
We only stock original new batteries. Used, refurbished & aftermarket batteries are generally no better than a 2-3 year old existing battery. All our battery replacements are backed with a 1 year warranty.
Finally, we take care of the rest …
Post repair testing
A full 21 point quality control check is completed before returning the device.
Anti bacterial clean
After the repair is completed & tested, we clean the device with 100% isopropyl alcohol and then a streak free polish liquid to remove any residue. For phones we also use a UV light to kill any remaining bacteria.
Warranty
If we missed something or a problem crops up a few months down the track we can jump right on this, most repairs are backed with a 6 – 12 month guarantee.
