8 Simple Settings To Turn Off For Data Privacy & Extended Battery Life
1. Location Services
Location Services allows apps to access your location data, which can be a big privacy concern. Location services can also drain your battery quickly, especially if you’re using them in the background. If you don’t need location services, turn them off.
Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services. Then, turn off the switch next to any apps you don’t want to have access to your location.
2. Background App Refresh
Background App Refresh allows apps to update themselves in the background when you’re not using them. Apps running in the background continue to use power, even if you’re not actively using them. Close any apps that you’re not using to save battery life.
Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh. Then, turn off the switch next to any apps you don’t want to update in the background.
3. Personalised Ads
Personalised ads are ads that are targeted to you based on data collected on your interests and browsing history. For increased privacy, turn off this setting.
Go to Settings > Privacy > Apple Advertising. Then, turn off the switch next to “Allow Personalized Ads.”
4. Analytics & Improvements
Analytics & Improvements allows apps to send data about your usage to Apple, which can be a big privacy concern.
To turn off Analytics & Improvements, go to Settings > Privacy > Analytics & Improvements. Then, turn off the switch next to “Share Analytics.”
5. Turn off Allow Apps to Request to Track
Allow Apps to Request to Track is a setting that allows apps to ask for permission to track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites. If you don’t want apps to track you, turn off this setting.
To turn off Allow Apps to Request to Track, go to Settings > Privacy > Tracking. Then, turn off the switch next to “Allow Apps to Request to Track.
6. Turn On Auto-Brightness
Auto-Brightness automatically adjusts the brightness of your screen based on the ambient light, which can help to save battery life.
To turn on Auto-Brightness, go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Brightness. Then, turn off the switch next to “Auto-Brightness.”
7. Reduce Motion
Reduce Motion reduces the amount of motion and transitions on your screen. Turning this on can help to extend your battery life.
To turn on Reduce Motion, go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. Then, turn on the switch next to “Reduce Motion.”
8. Use Wi-Fi Whenever Possible.
Wi-Fi uses less power than cellular data, so if you’re in a location where you can connect to Wi-Fi, use it instead of cellular data.
