Why the iPhone 16e could be more expensive
iPhone 16e—the successor to its third-generation iPhone SE, got released, which, besides the naming change, also introduced a bunch of design changes, most importantly ditching the popular Touch ID for Face ID.
While the iPhone 16e can be a good all-rounder phone, for those who are holding onto an older iPhone, the big question is whether it is a good buy or not. In this guide, we will be discussing if it is better to buy the iPhone 16e or skip to a more premium model to get better value for your money. Let’s jump right into it.
Is It cheap? …No, it isn’t
Apple launched the iPhone 16e for a starting price of $599, top-of-the-line model will cost you $899. The iPhone SE (3rd gen), which was launched in 2022, was priced at $429. So, now the entry price of the Apple ecosystem starts at $599, $170 more than the previous.
You can get a better iPhone for the price
iPhone 16 (256GB)and 16 (128GB )Plus will provide you better value for money because they come with an extra camera, a more powerful processor. And a more modern iPhone, you get Dynamic Island on the iPhone 16 series as opposed to the bathtub notch on the iPhone 16e.
No ProMotion Display
iPhone 16e is still stuck at 60Hz, which is a big tradeoff. It doesn’t feature ProMotion Display, which is Apple’s way of describing a 120Hz refresh rate panel. 60Hz refresh rate will give a sluggish feel compared to most modern smartphones. Heck, even budget Android phones are now offering 120Hz for less than half the price of the iPhone 16e.
Weak camera system
A single 48MP camera which, for some reason, Apple calls a “48MP 2-in-1 camera system.” can crop into 2x to give you a sense of a zoom camera, but it is possible only because of the high-resolution lens. You are left with no macro photography, cinematic mode, or action mode, among others.
No support for MagSafe accessories
Since the iPhone 16e doesn’t feature the magnets for MagSafe support, you won’t be able to take advantage of the several MagSafe accessories, such as a wallet, stand, power bank, speaker, etc. Also, you are stuck at 7.5W of wireless charging on the iPhone 16e as opposed to MagSafe devices that offer 25W fast charging.
