We repair 100’s of mobile phones per week and we usually ask customers how did this happen? Screen damage is most commonly caused by dropping it on concrete or tiles at home. Relating to liquid damage it’s usually the pool, ocean and mainly the toilet.
Here are some of my most sympathetic causes for broken mobile & iPad devices.
A woman with her Samsung Galaxy between her breasts leant over the toilet and it flew in.
Status: Stupid / Deserved It
A chap heel tripped down some stairs with his iPhone 6 plus in the back pocket and fell on it by landing butt first on the last stair.

The Infamous Carpet:
We do get people who manage to break their mobile phone screens by just dropping it on the carpet. This is a very low % break as it comes down to how it lands and how much impact is distributred to a single point, this situation is very rare indeeed.
Status: Very Unlucky
When it comes to water damage It is always a 50/50 repair depending on the steps taken after the initial water damage. People forget they have their phone on them and jump or sometimes get thrown into a pool or they wander off into the ocean after a few drinks. If it’s sea water that has damaged the phone then there really is no saving it as salt water is far more corrossive than tap or pool water and will basically fry your phone from the inside within hours.
If you do get your phone or iPad water damaged turn it off immediately and do not turn it on, take to a repair centre immediately.

Infants & iPads
Another popular contributor to damaged devices are children. We get loads of iPads coming in with broken screens from children throwing them at walls, standing on them and spilling drinks over them. Honestly, we are still in business only because infants are given iPads to play with.

The Same Day Buy And Brake:
There is nothing worse, and I feel very sympathetic for the people in these cases, when someone has just taken their brand new Galaxy S6 or iPhone 6 out of the box and within a day they have broken it. I had someone last month who didn’t even make it from the shop to the car before they broke it, The HTC One M9 was dropped while activating it enroute from shop to car.
The funniest thing I have seen was only just recently. An Angry woman and a meat tenderizer Vs an iPad Mini. The poor little iPad didn’t stand a chance. I have included a photo to show the damage. It not only obliterated the screen, but the LCD, the LCD backplate, the battery and the back housing. Absolute carnage.
Status: Although expensive, it’s an extremely gratifying experience to settle the score with a device that doesn’t do what its supposed to.
Protecting Your Device
There are several ways to increase the protection from your Samsung Galaxy, iPhone or iPad. There are many sturdy cases out there in either rubber, plastic or silicone materials. Life-proof cases are popular that basically box your phone into an enclosure and more often than not can go underwater. Screen protectors can stop your screen from getting scratched and from getting dirty. Tempered Glass screen protectors provide the same scractch free protection but also act as a layer of protection if you drop your phone, it hopefully will break in place of your actual screen.
Here at Synced Repairs we are all about helping people so apart from offering repairs for all mobile phone and iPad devices we encourage your wrap up those devices up with a case and a decent screen protector by coming to visit us in store for a free case and screen guard. We also sell tempered glass screen protectors for that added layer of screen protection.
